Information we collect
When you submit a contact form on this site — on the homepage, a practice area page, or the main Contact page — we collect the information you provide: your name, phone number, and any message or details about your situation. Providing an email address is optional.
This site also uses Google Analytics to collect standard usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and general location (city/region level, not precise location), together with Google Ads tools that measure how our advertising performs. These load on every visit — see "Cookies and tracking" below.
How we use information
Information submitted through a contact form is used solely to respond to your inquiry and evaluate whether we can assist with your matter. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses Google Tag Manager to load analytics and advertising tags, including Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion and remarketing tags. These run on every visit. Our Cookie Policy explains what is used and sets out the opt-out tools available to you, including Google's Analytics opt-out add-on and My Ad Center.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate this site:
- SMTP2GO — relays contact form submissions to our office by email. See SMTP2GO's Privacy Policy.
- Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, and Google Ads — Tag Manager loads on every page and manages our analytics and advertising tags. Google Analytics helps us understand site usage, and Google Ads tools measure our advertising performance and may be used to show our ads to people who have visited this site. - Google Maps — our Contact page includes an embedded Google Map to help visitors locate our office. When the map loads, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser or device information, and information about your interaction with the map. Google may also use cookies or similar technologies in accordance with its own Privacy Policy. Stern & Stern does not control Google's collection or use of this information. - Cloudflare — our hosting provider, which processes standard web traffic (IP address, browser type) to deliver this site securely. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Elfsight — powers two features on this site: the translation control in the header, which appears on every page, and the Google client reviews display on our Reviews page. Elfsight's script loads on every page in order to run the translation control, and Elfsight may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser information when it does. Because our advertising tags are managed through Google Tag Manager, the specific tags in use may change over time. If a tool that collects information in a materially different way is added, this page and our Cookie Policy will be updated to reflect it.
Data retention
We retain information submitted through contact forms for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry and, where an attorney-client relationship is formed, for as long as required by our professional and legal recordkeeping obligations as attorneys licensed in New York.
Data security
We take reasonable measures to protect information submitted through this site. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending highly sensitive information (such as Social Security numbers or financial account numbers) through the contact form — call our office directly for anything requiring that level of care.
Your rights
You may contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about you or to request that it be corrected or deleted, subject to any records we are required to keep under our professional obligations as attorneys. If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information has been collected about you and the right to request its deletion; you can exercise these rights using the contact information below.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the tools this site uses. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date above.
