Our commitment
Stern & Stern Law Firm is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, magnification, or keyboard-only navigation. We've built this site with the goal of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
Measures we've taken
This site includes, among other things:
- A "skip to main content" link for keyboard users, so repeated navigation can be bypassed on every page
- Semantic landmarks (a single main content region per page, proper heading structure) to support screen reader navigation
- A mobile menu and "Practice areas" dropdown that are fully operable by keyboard, with focus moved sensibly on open and close and Tab kept within the open menu until it's dismissed
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements, not just a default browser outline we've stripped away
- Text and interface colors checked against WCAG's minimum contrast requirements
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images
- Labeled, keyboard-accessible forms with clear status messages when a form is submitted successfully or fails
- Respect for your operating system's "reduce motion" setting — animations are minimized or skipped if you've asked your device for that
- A Pause control beneath the scrolling client reviews on the homepage, so the movement can be stopped by anyone, whether or not their device has a "reduce motion" setting turned on
- Interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) sized and spaced to be comfortably clickable or tappable, not just technically present
- Contact information available in the same place on every page, so it's never hard to find
Known limitations
A few things on this site come from third parties we don't fully control, and aren't covered by the commitment above:
- The map on our Contact page is a Google Maps embed. Its accessibility is controlled by Google, not by us. The office address it shows is also provided in plain, readable text right next to it, so the information isn't dependent on the map itself.
- Client reviews are displayed using a third-party widget (Elfsight). Its accessibility is controlled by that provider, not by us, and it may not fully meet the same standard as the rest of this site.
- The translation control in the header is also a third-party widget (Elfsight), and it appears on every page. Its own accessibility, and the accuracy of any translation it produces, are controlled by that provider. One thing worth knowing if you use a screen reader: when the page is machine-translated, the underlying page is still marked as English, so your screen reader will keep reading in an English voice even though the words on screen have changed language.
